AAA winners with Board
DETROIT, August 3, 2005 – Ilitch Charities for Children (ICC), the charitable foundation established by the Ilitch family announced the Little Caesars AAA Hockey Scholarship winners. Tiffany Homant of Traverse City, and Anthony McIntyre of Waterford were this year’s top winners, each receiving a $5,000 scholarship.

Homant, a native of Traverse City, will attend Wayne State University in the fall and plans to play for the Little Caesars 19-and-under team for one more year. She graduated with a 3.674 grade point average after splitting her senior year between Stephenson High School in Sterling Heights and Central High School in Traverse City.

McIntyre is currently signed to play with the Cleveland Barons Junior “A” team of the NAHL next season. He graduated from St. Mary’s Preparatory school in Orchard Lake Magna Cum Laude and held a 3.76 grade point average. McIntyre played three fall and spring seasons for the Little Caesars AAA Hockey Program.

Four other applicants were recognized for their academic achievements and commitment to the Little Caesars hockey program. Justin Sand of Warren was awarded a $2,000 scholarship. Sand graduated from Cousino High School with a 3.9 grade point average and plans to attend Michigan State University to study Civil Engineering. The three other recipients were each awarded a $500 scholarship. Courtney Cooper of New Baltimore graduated from Anchor Bay High School with a 3.86 grade point average and plans to attend the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York.

Lyndsay Laxton of Grand Rapids graduated from Forest Hills Northern High school with a 3.275 grade point average and will attend Elmira College in New York this fall. Stephanie Rees of Westland graduated from John Glenn High School with a 3.917 grade point average and plans to attend college to study business.

The hockey scholarship, funded by ICC, honors outstanding high school male (Little Caesars Midget Major) and female (Little Caesars Girls 19 and Under) athletes and provides each of them with a scholarship toward the college of their choice. To qualify for the scholarship, students are required to have a 3.0 grade point average or above, be a current member of the Little Caesars AAA Hockey Club and have plans to attend a college or university within the next three years.
