LCAHL winners with Board
DETROIT, August 3, 2005 – Ilitch Charities for Children (ICC), the charitable foundation established by the Ilitch family announced the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League scholarship winners. This year five outstanding recipients were each awarded a $2,000 scholarship.

Andrew Aulerich of Portland graduated from Portland High school with a 3.99 grade point average. He recently wrapped up his final season with the GLAHA and Little Caesars Hockey Program, which he has been a part of for nine years. He plans to attend Lawrence Technological University in the fall where he will be a member of their Division III hockey team.

Katherine Burns of Grand Rapids graduated from Catholic Central High School with a 4.232 grade point average. Burns is currently the captain of the Kentwood Girls’ LCAHL 19-and-under Travel A team. She was previously a member of the Grand Rapids Amateur Hockey Association Girls 15-and-under as well as 16-and-under Travel AA teams.

Rebecca Koke of Pinckney graduated from Pinckney High School with a 3.9 grade point average. Koke plays for the Ann Arbor 19-and-under Girls Hockey Team. Her goal is to study engineering at the University of Michigan.

John Plonka of Grosse Pointe Farms graduated from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School with a 4.07 grade point average. Plonka started playing hockey ten years ago for a Mini-Mite team. His volunteer work is exceptional and he recently traveled to Jamaica to work with the deaf community.

David Zelinsky of West Bloomfield graduated from Notre Dame Preparatory High School with a 4.07 grade point average. He currently plays for the Midget BB USA Hawks. Zelinsky plans to study Meteorology at a four-year university.

The hockey scholarship, funded by ICC, honors outstanding high school male and female athletes and provides each of them with a scholarship toward the college of their choice. To qualify for the scholarship, students are required to have a 3.0 grade point average or above, be a current member of a Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League team and have plans to attend a college or university within the next three years.
