Frequently Asked Questions

What is ICC?
The mission of Ilitch Charities for Children (ICC) is to improve the lives of children in the areas of health, education and recreation.  A non-profit foundation, ICC assists a variety of groups throughout Michigan and metropolitan Detroit each year.  ICC grants have recently been awarded to C.O.T.S. (Coalition on Temporary Shelter) to build an infant care center, Children's Home of Detroit, Math Corps at Wayne State University, Special Olympics of Michigan, Bridging Communities, Kids Kicking Cancer, Recording for the Blind & Dyslexic, MI-COPS (Michigan Concerns of Police Survivors), the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, and the Junior Achievement Finance Park in Detroit.  ICC also supports the Little Caesars AAA Hockey program and the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League through the establishment of an annual scholarship program.

How can I help?
ICC hosts a variety of fundraising events throughout the year to raise money that we in turn contribute back to the community.  Recent events have included the Second Annual Oscar Night America Charity Gala on February 25, 2007 and the Champions' Challenge Charity Softball Game at Comerica Park on September 9, 2006.

Fill out our Contact Form to be added to our mailing list so we can keep you informed of upcoming events in the area.  If you would like to host an event and designate Ilitch Charities for Children as the beneficiary, please call (313) 983-6340.

Is ICC looking for sponsors?
Yes! If you are interested in being a sponsor for an event, or have another idea concerning sponsorship, call 313-983-6340. Exciting opportunities exist with our special events, which are often connected to the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Tigers.

Can I make donations online?
Not yet, but we hope to provide that option soon. Contributions may be made by mail, or simply contact Kim Haranczak, manager of Ilitch Charities for Children (313-983-6340) and she can assist you.

Where does the money go?
Funds raised by the foundation are distributed to non-profit organizations in the form of grants.  These grants are designated for programs that help children in the areas of health, education and recreation.

Where do groups apply for grants?
New guidelines and application instructions were posted in January 2007.  The instructions for grant applications can be found on the left side of our main page by clinking the link that says "Grant Applications - FAQs and Instructions."  Please review these instructions and guidelines carefully before submitting a Letter of Inquiry.  Full applications will not be accepted if they are unsolicited.

What are your deadlines for proposal submission?
Organizations should apply at least four months prior to the start date of the project for which they are seeking funds.  Funding for any given calendar year is allocated at the May and November board meetings.  Letters of Inquiry are reviewed on an ongoing basis.

When are the Little Caesars AAA and Amateur Hockey Scholarships Awarded?
The Little Caesars AAA Hockey Scholarship and the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League Scholarship are awarded each Spring.  Five student athletes from the Little Caesars Amateur Hockey League are selected for this $2,000 scholarship.  The Little Caesars AAA Hockey Scholarship, which is the only AAA hockey scholarship in the state of Michigan, awards two student athletes with $5,000 each (one male and one female) towards college tuition.
